A Complex Design Might be Disastrous

If this is not the very first time when you have used the Internet, chances are, you would have used Google to search for a website. In addition to the raw computing power of Google’s servers, exhaustive and superfast algorithms, what makes Google such as powerful website is its simplicity. There lies a huge universe of website right behind one simple text box (the search box) on the Google website.

The point I’m trying to make is, for a great usability your website doesn’t need to have too much of graphic, too many attention grabbing images, HTML controls, jazzy fonts. Instead, because you want your website to become a daily tool of your visitors, you need to focus on making it as simple as possible. However, despite being simple your website should not appear unprofessional and having less information than required.

Simplicity of your website lies in making it obvious for the people to understand how to use it and what to expect as a result of their actions. A cluttered design confuses people and makes them think about which choice is the most correct choice to make when they want a certain result. For example, a Web page consisting of several HTML forms with the Submit buttons, search buttons, flashy and eye-catching images, rollover ads and a lot of text in several fonts can be really annoying. In such a website, it becomes difficult for the users to understand what element is responsible for what.

Whereas this also might not be visually appealing, it can make user look for other similar sites that are simpler and easier to use. This is why having different pages having different functionalities and giving distinctive hyperlinks to them on the home page can be a good idea to keep the navigation simple. For instance, a website about the wedding themes should have its other sections, such as Ornaments listed separately to help them get all information on the ornaments like silver rings at one place. This will also allow you to write guiding text on each of the pages to help them learn why and how the users should use them.
